Billy Heroman’s Flowers – International Women’s Day
From our earliest days at school, we learn of famous people who helped to shape the story of our nation and the world. Here in America there are many phenomenal and strong women who have influenced the very course of our history. We honor females such as Rosa Parks and Maya Angelou for their impacts on changing cultural norms; Frances Perkins for being the first woman to serve in a presidential cabinet as FDR’s Secretary of Labor, and Sally Ride as the first woman to travel to space. However, many nations do not have the same story of influence as we have in the U.S.; a fact which drives activists each day to make a significant change in the world.
Supporters of women’s rights are making an impact with the recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8th . The day is meant to help promote the rights, freedoms and safety of women worldwide. Although observed in some manner since the early 1900’s, since 1977 the United Nations has spearheaded the global campaign and brought credibility to the cause.
There are women right here in Baton Rouge that are making an impact in every walk of life. From teachers to politicians to doctors, women have positive influence every day. On International Women’s Day, let her know just how important she is, and what a big difference she makes in the lives of people around her. Orchids symbolize beauty and refinement; but there are also less traditional flowers and plants that you can use to create a custom bouquet that will honor her unique contribution. For instance, palms are known to celebrate success; laurel plants signify victory; and hollyhocks represent ambition.
Billy Heroman’s Flowers has a passion for providing our community with beautiful floral arrangements for every occasion. On International Women’s Day, show your respect to all the women who continue to make change, set goals and influence lives.
