Before long, the National Secretaries’ Association formed to recognize these hard-working individuals and the contributions they made to our nation’s commerce. Annually, there are nearly 4 million dogs and puppies entering shelters across the country, and latest statistics indicate that half of them will not make it out alive. National Puppy Day was first observed in 2007 when animal advocates established the day to shine a light on the problems of overpopulation, overbreeding, and over-crowded shelters. They still hope to educate the public on these issues while encouraging all prospective pet owners to adopt a rescue animal - and quite literally save a life Read More about Honoring Those Who Rescue Puppies »

We've barely put away the Mardi Gras decor and we've got another great reason to celebrate - and use a lot of left-over green beads! The Wearin' of the Green Parade takes place here in Baton Rouge on March 18th, one day after the official holiday. But why do we celebrate this day anyway? Both a cultural phenomenon and a religious observance, the date was originally established as a Catholic feast day, but has grown into a celebration of all things Irish. Whether to show off your own Irish flair or to send a token to your Celtic friends, Billy Heroman's Flowers & Gifts is the place to call for the most beautiful and unique green florals in town.
Did You Know? St. Patrick was not Irish, he was born to a family in Great Britain. As a young man, he was kidnapped by pirates and was held captive in Ireland. After his release, he became a priest and returned to Ireland to be a missionary to the local Celtic druid peoples. Read More about St. Patrick’s Day Florals »

Baton Rouge doesn't have the cold winters that many parts of the country experience, but we still look forward to the new season with anticipation. Beautiful spring days, before the heat of summer sets in, are carefree and sunny. And the bright flowers of springtime exhibit some of the most vivid colors we'll see all year. At Billy Heroman's Flowers, we love creating the spring bouquets that will revitalize the ambiance of any home or office, and remind us all of the promise and optimism of the season.
The earliest flowers of spring are generally the crocus (which blooms even in snow in northern states) and the daffodil - two quintessential harbingers of springtime. Read More about Seasonal Spring Flowers »

Floral Design Day was instituted in 1995, in honor of Carl Rittner, founder of the School of Floral Design in Boston. Rittner is considered by many to be the "father of floral design" and was one of the very first to recognize the work done in this industry as a legitimate art form. His legacy and vision have influenced thousands of professionals through the years. On the day he is remembered, we'd like to introduce you to one of our floral designers, Robert, who has been with Billy Heroman's Flowers since the 1970's. Although he took breaks over the years, he always returned - and he is here to stay. Read More about Floral Design Day – Meet Robert »
