Is “Love At First Sight” Real? The short answer is yes! Love at first sight can happen as quickly as 0.2 seconds and can be explained as the release of love hormones, such as dopamine and oxytocin, during a first interaction. It is reported that men experience this phenomenon more frequently than women.

Why is it Called a Honeymoon? One of the most romantic events in a couple’s journey together is often their honeymoon. This event, usually involving a week-long getaway to some exotic location, is typically revered as one of the most romantic times in a couple’s life. However, the origins of the honeymoon have a very different connotation. Appearing for the first time in the 16th Century, this word had a bittersweet meaning. “Honey” referred to the sweetness of the relationship, but “moon” referenced the ever-waning moon, sure to fade quickly as time passed. Later, Norse legend has it that “honey” referred to a honey mead, a very sweet wine made with honey and served hot. This was to be drunk during the first month of marriage (one complete moon cycle) to increase fertility.

Thankfully, today we attach different meanings to old legends and origins. Even if you’re not celebrating a honeymoon, you can certainly celebrate the romance in your relationship with beautiful gifts, hand-written letters, poetry, or flowers.

What Flowers Are Symbols of Love & Romance? When we think of romantic flowers, roses are often top of mind. Roses have been connected to love, romance, and passion for centuries. Even the Ancient Romans linked roses with the Goddess of Love, Venus. Orchids are luxurious and refined blooms that also symbolize love and romance, making them ideal for an elegant romantic evening with your partner. If you’re in a long-distance relationship or missing your partner, perhaps lilies will strike your fancy as they are a symbol of longing, love, passion, and romance. Daisies are an excellent choice for those celebrating a new and innocent love as well as true love. Since Romance Month is celebrated towards the end of summer, the sunny, uplifting, and positively radiant sunflower is most appropriate. These blooms are not only connected to peace and happiness but loyalty, adoration, and love.
