Make a note of May 6 through May 12—it’s both Teacher and Nurse Appreciation Week. You’ll want to honor the heroes in your life who empower, nurture and educate so many and often for very little in return. Billy Heroman’s Flowers & Gifts has the perfect offering for the super heroes in your life, the nurses and teachers who are also mentors, family, friends, colleagues and neighbors.
It’s almost Earth Day, and in honor of it we here at Billy Heroman’s Flowers & Gifts want to show you what’s growing in our greenhouses.
We love celebrating our planet on April 22—there’s nothing better than seeing our Baton Rouge community come together for plantings, re-cycling events, environmental fairs and clean-ups. While you’re participating in local initiatives that remind us to be good stewards of the Earth, don’t forget to bring something green home, too. One of the best ways to get kids connected to our planet and interested in protecting it is to give them—and the whole house—something green to take care of.
Spring offers us the chance to do a reset, and we here at Billy Heroman’s Flowers love the opportunity to do that. We know that one of the best ways to top off your spring clean is by adding an oxygenating plant to your home. There’s nothing quite like a lush green plant to reset and refresh your space while providing definite health benefits, too.
For many of us, the holiday season only officially begins when we’ve decorated the house and set up the tree. We transform our homes with garlands and lights, introducing some seasonal spirit to our daily lives. For most of us, it’s no different at the workplace. Out come the decorations, cheering up our desks and common areas and announcing to customers, clients and coworkers that the holidays are here.
At Billy Heroman’s Flowers, we love to combine our cherished decor with fresh new items unique to that year. And for us, there’s no better way to do that than with winter’s vibrant poinsettias.
Chances are, you’re attending a dinner party sometime this holiday season. And while it may not be on the level of Thanksgiving, it’s still a gathering in which your host or hostess will be going to some effort to make a nice meal and put out all the decor. In that case, it’s time to think about the thank-you gift you’ll offer in return.
Hostess gifts have been around forever, and while there’s some debate about what’s appropriate to give, one thing is for sure, at least to Billy Heromans Flowers & Gifts: Fall florals are never wrong.
National Boss’s Day originated in the mind of Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Chicago. She registered the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958, selecting October 16 as the date as it was her dad’s birthday. Haroski’s goal was to express gratitude for her boss, as well as to recognize all great employers across the country. She hoped the day would improve and enhance the relationship between employees and their supervisors, bosses and owners. In 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner proclaimed the day an official observance (although it is not a national holiday). In addition to the United States, the day is celebrated in several other countries such as Australia and India.
At Billy Heroman’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe that a great boss deserves to be recognized. So here’s to the mentors, the promoters, the leaders, and all those who make our workplace a positive place to be every day! We say thank you with beautiful gifts of plants and flowers that will look awesome in any work environment. Continue reading

Welcome, summer! The sun is shining, the kids are ready for adventure, and we are busy planning trips, parties, and play-dates. This time of year is exciting, with the promise of longer daylight hours and all the fun and memories that we can pack into them.
To those with large backyards, summertime parties are often the best part of the season – a beautiful garden with vibrant flowers provides the perfect backdrop for friends and family. But the truth is, not everyone has the time to cultivate a garden, or even the space in our yards to accommodate one. For those who have a smaller yard, live in an apartment or whose backyard patio is limited in size – we have the perfect solution! In fact, we have created some designer arrangements just for you, so that you can focus your time and energy on the people around you this season.
Blooming baskets are an ideal way to bring nature into the boundaries of your outdoor space. With these floral arrangements, you can instantly give your yard or porch the makeover you desire. The versatility of the baskets is evident – move them from place to place around your home, bring them indoors or even transplant the shrubs and flowers from the basket to your flower beds when your gathering is over so that they can continue to thrive and flourish. You can also decorate porches, lanais, and balconies with lush hanging plants, small potted varietals and even fresh cut bouquets.
At Billy Heroman’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe that everyone should be surrounded by stunning flowers and green plants, but that doesn’t have to mean long hours slaving away in the garden. Contact us today so that you can get a jump start on your beautiful summer décor that only looks like you gardened for months!
As springtime approaches, so does one special day – it is so special, in fact, that it is celebrated twice. On March 20th of 2016, the Spring Equinox will be upon us; and since 1970, this day has also been known as an International Earth Day. Founder John McConnell was inspired to establish this day in order to unite globl citizens on issues of peace and stewardship for the earth. Similarly, on April 22nd, of 1970, Gaylord Nelson, a U.S.Senator known for his conservation efforts, established a day of educational initiatives for the environment, also named Earth Day. Although two distinct days with differing outreach efforts, over the years they have collectively raised awareness of the importance of preserving the world’s resources.
Green plants and trees are an essential component of our planet’s health; the benefits that afford the Earth can also be translated to our own homes and lives. During America’s growth and progress, countless trees and plants have been destroyed. However, plants play an extremely important role in our ecosystems, from improving the air quality to offering medicinal benefit. One popular initiaitve on Earth Day is planting trees; by surrounding yourself with green plants and cultivated trees, you can also ensure the same benefit in your personal space.
Flowers also have their own benefit – mostly they make people happy! It’s been a long, cold winter, and everyone is ready for a little spring, This Earth Day, you can show your loved ones how much you care about them – and about our environment – in one special gift.
Billy Heroman’s of Baton Rouge knows that plants and flowers are an integral part of our lives, whether we are aware of it or not. On Earth Day, give someone you love a green plant or floral bouquet – not only will it beautify their home or office, but it will provide benefits they cant see. Billy Heroman’s lives and breathes floral arrangements every day – and we would be happy to work with you to keep the planet green.
The holiday chaos is over, the decorations are put away, and out of town guests and family members are gone. But now your house looks bare and boring. It’s not an official holiday or celebration; it’s merely an opportunity to help people to warm up their homes with houseplants.

Split Leaf Philodendron
If you’re looking for something exotic and dramatic, you won’t find anything that fits that description better than our Split Leaf Philodendron. This unusual variation on the familiar heart-shaped philodendron is super easy to maintain. It is a plant that adapts to most light conditions and only requires water. You and your family will always be impressed by the unique shape and size of the leaves.
Our lush Bromeliad will fill your home with rich earthy colors and the feeling of an exotic tropical garden. Bromeliads need medium to bright light and grow best out of a shallow pot. You can bring the plant outside and continue to grow it as an air plant. This beautifully colorful plant will warm your home up and enliven the moods of your family members.
Another showy plant that doesn’t require any care is our Chinese Evergreen. It is one of the most durable houseplants. You can ignore this plant and it will continue to thrive – even if you forget to water it for lengthy time periods. It prefers to grow in low light conditions, with warm temperatures and humidity.
You can always count on the knowledgeable team at Billy Heroman’s to turn your drab house into a warm, peaceful, welcoming environment.
