For many of us, the holiday season only officially begins when we’ve decorated the house and set up the tree. We transform our homes with garlands and lights, introducing some seasonal spirit to our daily lives. For most of us, it’s no different at the workplace. Out come the decorations, cheering up our desks and common areas and announcing to customers, clients and coworkers that the holidays are here.
At Billy Heroman’s Flowers, we love to combine our cherished decor with fresh new items unique to that year. And for us, there’s no better way to do that than with winter’s vibrant poinsettias.
Chances are, you’re attending a dinner party sometime this holiday season. And while it may not be on the level of Thanksgiving, it’s still a gathering in which your host or hostess will be going to some effort to make a nice meal and put out all the decor. In that case, it’s time to think about the thank-you gift you’ll offer in return.
Hostess gifts have been around forever, and while there’s some debate about what’s appropriate to give, one thing is for sure, at least to Billy Heromans Flowers & Gifts: Fall florals are never wrong.
National Boss’s Day originated in the mind of Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Chicago. She registered the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958, selecting October 16 as the date as it was her dad’s birthday. Haroski’s goal was to express gratitude for her boss, as well as to recognize all great employers across the country. She hoped the day would improve and enhance the relationship between employees and their supervisors, bosses and owners. In 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner proclaimed the day an official observance (although it is not a national holiday). In addition to the United States, the day is celebrated in several other countries such as Australia and India.
At Billy Heroman’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe that a great boss deserves to be recognized. So here’s to the mentors, the promoters, the leaders, and all those who make our workplace a positive place to be every day! We say thank you with beautiful gifts of plants and flowers that will look awesome in any work environment. Continue reading

In fact, we have created some designer arrangements just for you, so that you can focus your time and energy on the people around you this season.
Blooming baskets are an ideal way to bring nature into the boundaries of your outdoor space. With these floral arrangements, you can instantly give your yard or porch the makeover you desire. The versatility of the baskets is evident – move them from place to place around your home, bring them indoors or even transplant the shrubs and flowers from the basket to your flower beds when your gathering is over so that they can continue to thrive and flourish. You can also decorate porches, lanais, and balconies with lush hanging plants, small potted varietals and even fresh cut bouquets.
At Billy Heroman’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe that everyone should be surrounded by stunning flowers and green plants, but that doesn’t have to mean long hours slaving away in the garden. As springtime approaches, so does one special day – it is so special, in fact, that it is celebrated twice. On March 20th of 2016, the Spring Equinox will be upon us; and since 1970, this day has also been known as an International Earth Day. Founder John McConnell was inspired to establish this day in order to unite globl citizens on issues of peace and stewardship for the earth. Similarly, on April 22nd, of 1970, Gaylord Nelson, a U.S.Senator known for his conservation efforts, established a day of educational initiatives for the environment, also named Earth Day. Although two distinct days with differing outreach efforts, over the years they have collectively raised awareness of the importance of preserving the world’s resources.
Green plants and trees are an essential component of our planet’s health; the benefits that afford the Earth can also be translated to our own homes and lives. During America’s growth and progress, countless trees and plants have been destroyed. However, plants play an extremely important role in our ecosystems, from improving the air quality to offering medicinal benefit. One popular initiaitve on Earth Day is planting trees; by surrounding yourself with green plants and cultivated trees, you can also ensure the same benefit in your personal space.
Flowers also have their own benefit – mostly they make people happy! It’s been a long, cold winter, and everyone is ready for a little spring, This Earth Day, you can show your loved ones how much you care about them – and about our environment – in one special gift.
Billy Heroman’s of Baton Rouge knows that plants and flowers are an integral part of our lives, whether we are aware of it or not. On Earth Day, give someone you love a green plant or floral bouquet – not only will it beautify their home or office, but it will provide benefits they cant see. Billy Heroman’s lives and breathes floral arrangements every day – and we would be happy to work with you to keep the planet green.

Another showy plant that doesn’t require any care is our Chinese Evergreen. It is one of the most durable houseplants. You might not have been aware it was even a holiday, but Houseplant Appreciation Day is coming up. Saturday, January 10 is Houseplant Appreciation Day, and it’s the perfect time for adding to your own houseplant collection or gifting friends, colleagues and family members with houseplants of their own.
Plants do so much for us — they help purify and oxygenate the air we breathe and neutralize toxins in our environment. Studies have shown they can help reduce stress, increase productivity and promote peace of mind. They are also an important element of the Chinese art of Feng Shui, which focuses on an optimal flow of life force energy, or “chi” around a home. Here are some plants that can help to improve the Feng Shui in any indoor environment; they’re also great for Houseplant Appreciation Day gift giving:
With its broad, patterned leaves and peaceful energy, the Chinese Evergreen can uplift the energy in any home. It’s also known to be excellent for cleansing VOCs (volatile organic compounds) around the home s that the air you breathe is safer for you and your family.
Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum Plant)
With a nickname name like Peace Lily, it’s not surprising that this plant will improve the energy and conditions around your home. It features shiny dark green leaves and it blooms bright white lily flowers throughout the year. Spathiphyllum also cleanses the air and is also very easy to care for.
Ferns are another pleasant way to improve the conditions in your home. The fern has been around on this planet for millions of years, and it brings a calm, centering energy to any space. Consider a Boston fern for your own home or to give as a gift.
The large ficus plant is also excellent for improving the flow of chi in your home as well as handling and neutralizing larger amounts of VOCs. This makes them ideal for larger spaces like living rooms, and they are particularly good at offsetting toxins brought in from new furniture items or carpeting. Consider adding an Amstel King or Benjamina ficus plant to your home or office, or give them as gifts to loved ones.
Houseplant Appreciation Day is a time to pause and express gratitude for all that plants do for our quality of life. Contact Billy Heroman’s for more ideas for Houseplant Appreciation Day gift giving.
